It’s time, once again, to bring the bounty of our growers and food producers to the forefront and open the Healdsburg Certified Farmers’ Market for the season. Begun by a handful of local farmers in 1978, it’s grown to be a valuable asset to the community, and one of the most vibrant markets in the county, if not the Bay Area. Including a great selection of locally grown produce, food products, prepared foods and handmade craft, the market has something for everyone.This season we welcome some new farms, food producers and craftspeople to our midst, as well as our tried-and-true vendors, some of whom have been with the market since its start! We also feature live music by some of our most talented local musicians and singers, cooking demos, and market tours, and fun events, like the Zucchini and Pumpkin Festivals, making a shopping trip much more of a joyful, lively experience than wheeling a cart through your local grocery store.
The Healdsburg Farmers’ Market is part of a consortium of farmers’ markets that is involved with a program called Market Match. For low-income shoppers, the Market Match program matches Snap/EBT (food stamps) dollars with vouchers for free fruits and vegetables. They match up to $20 in EBT purchases, giving customers not only a boost in their buying power but the incentive to eat healthier.
Shopping the market keeps local agriculture and small business alive and thriving, and gives attendees a bountiful selection of very fresh, delicious and often unique goods. Farmer’s markets in general are often testing grounds for new business, so there can be produce or products not found elsewhere. It’s also an ideal locale to meet up with friends and neighbors, have breakfast or brunch, and enjoy a peaceful Saturday morning. The dates are April 15th through December 23rd and the hours are 8:30 to noon. The market’s open rain or shine.
