Join Artist-in-Residence Bob Nugent for an intimate exploration of Renaissance-inspired still life drawing. Rooted in his embrace of wabi-sabi—the beauty of imperfection and impermanence—and sentido—a philosophy of deeper meaning and feeling—his teaching encourages students to see beyond technique and connect emotionally with their subject. This hands-on class encourages guests to move beyond technique, finding emotion, presence, and personal expression in every line. Following this session, Nugent will host casual “office hours,” inviting participants to share a glass of wine and conversation about art, process, and his international journey. All art materials are provided—including workspace, ink, and papers—so you can simply arrive ready to create. Wear comfortable clothing and, most importantly, bring an open mind and a spirit of curiosity. About Artist In Residence Bob Nugent We are honored to welcome acclaimed painter Bob Nugent as Appellation Healdsburg’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence, September 30 – October 6, 2025. A celebrated artist and Professor Emeritus at Sonoma State University, Nugent’s career spans more than five decades with exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and South America. His work—held in major collections including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Oakland Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art—draws inspiration from his extensive time in Brazil and his lifelong study of nature, place, and tradition. During his residency, Nugent will lead two Crafted at Appellation classes, guiding guests in Renaissance-style still life drawing. Following each session, he’ll host casual “office hours,” inviting participants to share a glass of wine and conversation about art, process, and his international journey. Nugent’s paintings will be on display and available for acquisition throughout the month of October, giving guests a chance to experience and take home a piece of his artistry.
