Hands On Healdsburg
by Christa Avampato

There’s something magical about stepping away from our screens and building something with our own two hands. The imagination fires up and creativity begins to flow. Our mind is fully engaged, and we feel calm and focused.

Hands On Healdsburg will bring together like-minded creative types in a series of hands-on workshops and experiences through its program that runs from January 10 – February 28, 2015.  Healdsburg’s unique blend of small town friendliness and rustic chic is less than a 90 minute drive from San Francisco – well worth the trip for this dynamite offering featuring local businesses as well as educational and creative activities, taught by experts:

Cocktails and wine

Learn to use homegrown botanicals to infuse syrups and blend them with Sonoma Brothers Vodka to create a cocktail experience you won’t soon forget at Spoonbar, a farm-fresh, modern restaurant. This event is on January 25th at 3:00pm. Reserve your spot here. $20.

If wine is your passion, spend the afternoon of January 31st at Cartograph Wines with winemaker and co-owner Alan Baker. Alan will give attendees a rare experience as guests get a behind-the-scenes view and taste of how Pinot Noir is made from the juicing process to bottling and aging. Register by calling the tasting room at 707.433.8270 or email Serena Lourie at serena@cartographwines.com. 1:00pm – 2:30pm. $50.

Mushroom lovers, you’re in luck! Relish Culinary Adventures will take you inside the magical world of mushroom foraging for three full days from January 9th –11th. The weekend consists of three different classes that can be purchased as a bundle or a la carte. It kicks off with a hands-on mushroom dinner on the evening of the 9th. On the 10th, they will have a mushroom foraging adventure along with a cooking class, followed by a lunch to taste the fruits of your labors. On the 11th, the weekend wraps up with a second foraging adventure and brunch. Register for any or all of these events and get more details about this one-of-a-kind experience here.
